Our Scooter Inquiry

Term four 2013 has started with a hiss and a roar!. First C4 got approval from the Board of Trustees to purchase the equipment we needed from Placemakers. We were all very pleased when the BOT approved the spending of up $200. The students that presented our Powerpoint to the BOT did really well.

Next we were off to Placemakers (Know How Can Do) on Clarence Street to purchase the wood. Cliff and Bob from Placemakers were great. They looked at our designs and cut the wood to size for us. They also got the screws, bolts and drill bits we needed to complete the job. Then Val the manager said that they would donate all the materials. We were surprised but very grateful. We said thank you very much and then sung them some songs.

Last week we headed to Melville Intermediate School to use their Wood work rooms. Matiu Pete helped us with the cutting of the slots and grooves while  the students got to use the belt sander and the orbital sander to take off the rough edges.

This week we have begun work on laying the pavers for the base of our scooter stand. Mr Braybrook is going to help students tomorrow to dig the pavers into the ground.

Everything seems to be going to plan.  Thanks so much to everybody who has helped to make this project come together.

This is the team who spoke at the BOT sharing their presentation
to Bob and Cliff.

This is Bob looking over our designs and
plans.

This is Cliff and Bob working to cut our wood for us.

Meiani is checking the parts after they have been cut to
length.

Cliff is making sure he gets the right measurments.

Levii is looking down the edge of one of our
scooter stands to see if it is straight.

This is Cliff after all his hard work for us.

This is Val telling us that she would donate all the
resources. Thanks Placemakers!!!

Scooter presentation to our stakeholders

On Monday we will be presenting our findings so far with our scooter inquiry to the whole school at assembly.

Thank you for the massive effort all of you have put into this project so far. I hope those who are presenting on Monday will practice what they have to say and have it ready for Monday. We will have a whole run through in the library before assembly.

Here is the video you guys produced, with some help. Some really great acting.

Scooter Mania

Well all the surveys have been returned and the next step is to interpret the data from the survey. We had a great response from those in our community who are our stakeholders in this project.

It will be interesting to see what each of your groups come up with.

We have had one stakeholder ask us a number of questions that we will need to answer that did not form part of our survey. So we will consider those during our company meetings. I hope your C.E.O (Chief Executive Officer) is ready to organise and lead your groups decision making.

Mr Poland past on this video clip of an interesting concept. Write a post of what you think about it.

It also meets one of our requirements. Can you name what that requirement is?

Tuesday the 7th May. iPad training with the teachers @ Deanwell

Last night students from C4 participated in some staff training with the some of the teachers from Deanwell School. It was so neat to see the collaboration and connections students and teachers were making with each other as they worked together to learn about the possibilities that the iPad could bring to the classroom environment.

I heard teachers and students laughing as they shared their knowledge with each other. I saw people discover new things and create some clever ideas using some of the Apps that were presented to them. I can only say from my point of view that those who attended enjoyed themselves and discovered something new about technology and about themselves.

Thanks so much to the six students who helped out on the night. I could not have done it without you.

Thank you so much Meiani, Katherine, Dorian, Chloe, Turahui and Sarah-Lee

Chloe is showing Mrs Spackman and Mrs Burrows how to use  Popplet.

Mrs Ditchburn is having fun while learning new techniques using the iPad. Katherine was very helpful.

The ladies are thinking hard about what they should do next. Meiani is giving them some ideas.

Mrs Doul put her shades on for effect and Mrs Dawkins was enjoying the experience. Sarah-Lee had lots of fun too.
Dorian is helping Mrs Russell with Doodle Buddy. She is very creative.

Turahui had to work one on one with Mr Poland to help him stay on task.
I sat in and listened to some of the wonderful conversations that were happening. I thoroughly enjoyed myself too.
